Uber Update+ Question

Thu Sep 11, 2008, 10:36 PM
An update on Uber, whose story can be found here: [link]

Hey guys~ I just wanted to let everyone know that Uber has been adopted by one of our awesome vet techs. In fact, she's the one who fostered Uber as a puppy, so there isn't any better choice out there! :) Now she's all big and grown up, with a super charming overbite<3 Her little snaggleteeth are adorable<3<3 Thanks once again for the donations and well wishes, they really made a difference. Other than :iconkaratzuki:'s sketch (which I will do asap), I think I got everyone covered. Please let me know if that's not the case though!

In other news, I want to know your opinions. Do you think that an artist who uses clothing designs made by fashion designers are [art] thieves? I mean, I haven't seen any such thing before personally, but I am curious :<

My opinion is generally no, they are not--simply because most of what makes a design unique is in the detailing, which most illustrators don't bother to include. I'm talking about stuff like seams, fancy designs, etc. It's just too difficult to achieve that level of detail illustrating without killing yourself :<

I don't get your question... So this is what I got out of it.... For example, If I draw a shirt with a tree. I then post it online and If some one takes that idea and makes money of it. Then I consider that stealing. If someone draws something that has already benn created. Then its not steeling. I know stores who have old clothes and shoes that are used to inspire fashion artist with even better idea!

Ah no, what I meant was say, an artist sees an outfit made by someone on Project Runway, and really likes it so s/he draws a character wearing exactly the same outfit. Would that then constitute something like "idea" theft?

ooh, thank you for the update, that's wonderful news! :3!

and I wasn't sure what you meant on the fashion design thing for a minute, I thought you meant if you drew a design that you saw and called it your own fashion design, then yeah, o' course that'd be theft, but the character thing? I dunno, you could just say "I saw this outfit *location* and liked it so" and I think that'd cover it really, because you're not taking credit for the outfit there but the piece as a whole.

can anybody stop this thing?
:iconmotavated:
Ahhh! I see... Nah, I don't think its stealing. But people are crazy! The artist might see it that you are steeling his work. I would mention the original artist just in case they might go crazy at someone....

Yea, that makes sense to me :3 I was just curious to see what the general opinion on that was, since people seem to jump over all sorts of things as "art theft" nowadays.

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't blame them for being overprotective though, those kind of things take a lot of work.

Well.. I don't really know. I mean, I suppose if you knew from who (like the designer herself/himself) you saw the clothes that you wanted to draw on someone, you could mention her/him and give her/him credit. Then again, if we want to be technical, then the person who designed jeans, the blouse, the shirt, the tuxedo, or etc. should be credited too... but most everyone doesn't know exactly who designed the first blouse or the first shirt or the first tuxedo...

..yeah, I dunno if that made sense, but, you know. ^^;

:iconlemonfruitpie:
No, no, I get you actually! But anyways, I agree as far as crediting the exact designer--crediting people beyond that (like the person who designed jeans, etc.) is taking it too far. XD; I think the situation only applies too if you copy the design /exactly/ and to the detail.
