Grumbling

Wed Oct 7, 2009, 1:22 AM
I dislike this whole "drag the picture to collect" it thing. I keep on accidentally adding random images to my collections, and then it's a pain to get them out, argh. Perhaps I ain't doing something right?

That's all.

Freelancing

On how to launch a freelance career, yoinked from Pac on LJ:

Personally I make my prices a bit high. Since my main focus is school, it's better for me to get a few high-paying customers vs. many lower paying ones. One common mistake I see people do in regards to this though, is that they sell themselves cheap because of a perceived lack of customer interest. In fact, they usually just need to market themselves better; I cannot stress enough how vital advertising is to getting a job. Many people seem to forget that.
When I first started doing commissions, I hounded websites and forums for work, and I actually got it. Now that I've stopped advertising as much, I've noticed that I definitely don't attract as many new customers, but that's fine. My point is that there is a clear positive correlation (at least in my case) between advertising and number of customers.

Of course, after you start getting customers, customer satisfaction is vital. Many of my customers are repeats, so I don't have to always go searching for new customers every time.

Not that I'm an expert or anything like that. But just my thoughts.

P.S. THE MOON IS ORANGE TONIGHT. It looks like an orange slice.

[Closed] $15 bust slot

Anyone want a painted bust for $15? It'll look something like these (but better):

EX1: [link]
EX2: [link]

I'm willing to draw pretty much anything. Paypal only. Opening one slot only, since it'll be a semi-experimental piece.

Slot taken. Might do this again though.

As good as it gets

So since my old webspace bit the dust, I've built a sort of shoddy updated replacement to it here:

The Flip Side 2.0

What do you think of it guys? I am sorta regretting the frames right now, since it makes things difficult to link to directly. On the bright side, this will force commissioners to notice my terms, process, etc. when they go to look at prices? Need to make some real graphics for it, durr.

I won't be adding a link section to it; instead I'll pimp some links here. If you'd like to get added to the list, go ahead and speak up.

Hope everybody is doing well and taking care of themselves,

Especially Californians

Tue Feb 10, 2009, 11:10 PM
No veterinary tax in California, please. CA wants to legislate a 9% tax on all veterinary services, including meds. This is really reprehensible at a time when so much is being done to heighten awareness regarding caring for animals. Veterinarians, whose training and licensing is as rigorous as that of MDs will now have their care taxed as though they were dispensing canned goods. And the cost of surgeries, neutering, etc. is high-an additional 9% will discourage many from giving their pet care.

Please call the governors's office and make it known that balancing the budget at the expense of our pets' health is not acceptable!!! It only takes about 20 seconds because it's all automated. Call 916-445-2841. Then please press 1 - 5 - 1 - 2 .

Press 1 for English. Press 5 for the veterinary tax proposal. It will ask you to press 1 if you're calling about the veterinary tax proposal, so press 1. Then press 2 to oppose the tax.

Seriously, this is no good :[ I already know some people who choose to withold on veterinary care services because of the price; raising taxes on it will only aggravate the issue. It really only takes a couple of seconds to do and you don't even have to talk to a person, so please, call in.
